Fang Zengxian was born in Lanxi, Zhejiang Province in 1931 and is currently based in Shanghai.

In 1953, he graduated from the East China Branch of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He has served as an Associate Professor and Professor at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Deputy Dean of Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy, Director of Shanghai Art Museum, Chairman of Shanghai Artists Association, Director of China Artists Association, and the Dean of Chinese Painting Institute of China National Painting Academy.

His works have been exhibited and collected in galleries in both China and abroad.

He published a number of monograph such as, "How to Draw Ink Paintings", "Structural Sketch", "Sculpture Problems of Figure Paintings" and others.

In 23 years, he won the second "China Art Award, Lifetime Achievement Award".

1931年生於浙江蘭溪,現居上海。

1953年畢業於中央美術學院華東分院。歷任浙江美術學院副教授、教授,上海中國畫院副院長、上海美術館館長、上海美術家協會主席、中國美術家協會理事、中國國家畫院中國畫院院長。

作品多次在國內外展出並被收藏。

出版專著《怎樣畫水墨人物畫》、《結構素描》、《人物畫的造型問題》等。

23年獲第二屆「中國美術獎·終身成就獎」。
