Geng Jianyi was Born in Zhengzhou, Henan Province in 1962 and graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1985. He currently lives and works in Hangzhou and teaches at the China Academy of Art.

In 1986, his oil painting "Second State" and other works participated in the early exhibitions of Chinese contemporary art movement, such as the "Chinese Modern Art Exhibition" of the National Art Museum of China in 1989, the "After ‘89 Chinese New Art Exhibition" of the Hong Kong Arts Center, and the 45th Venice Biennale, the Wayne Oriental Road, and the touring exhibition “China Avant-Garde Art Exhibition” held at the Berlin World Culture Palace.

He received the 8th China Contemporary Art Award (CCAA) Outstanding Achievement Award by Swiss collector Uli Sigg.

1962年出生於河南鄭州,1985年畢業於浙江美術學院油畫系,現居住和工作於杭州,任教中國美術學院。

1986年油畫《第二狀態》等作品參加了中國當代藝術早期奠基式的展覽,如1989年中國美術館的「中國現代藝術展」、香港藝術中心的「後八九中國新藝術展」、第四十五屆威尼斯雙年展-威尼東方之路,以及柏林世界文化宮舉行的巡迴展「中國前衛藝術展」。

獲得瑞士收藏家烏利•希克創辦的中國當代藝術獎(CCAA)傑出成就獎(第八屆)。

耿建翌于2017年逝世，享年55岁
