Liu Wei was born in Beijing in 1972 and graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 1996. He currently lives and works in Beijing.

He works with a number of different mediums including paintings, photography, installations, drawings, sculptures, as well as large-scale social criticism installations.

He participated in a number of contemporary art exhibitions both domestic and abroad, including the following: the first Guangzhou Triennial in 2002, the Shanghai Biennale in 2004, the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005, participated in the 4th Seoul Media Art Biennale in 2006, and Lyon Biennale in 2007.

1972年生於北京，1996年畢業於杭州中國美術學院油畫系,現居住和工作於北京。

創作媒介有繪畫、影像、裝置、素描及雕塑,也有社會評判傾向的大型裝置。

2002年參加首屆廣州三年展、2004年參加上海雙年展、2005年參加第五十一屆威尼斯雙年展、2006年參加第四屆首爾媒體藝術雙年展、2007年參加里昂雙年展等許多國內外的當代藝術展覽。
