TSAI MING-LIANG
蔡明亮
Tsai Ming-Liang was born in Malaysia in 1957 with ancestry from Jieyang, Guangdong Province. He currently lives and work in Taiwan as an independent filmmaker. In 1981, he graduated from the Department of Drama at the Chinese Culture University. In 1983, he edited, directed and performed a one-person work "The Wardrobe in the Room" in an attempt to explore urban resident’s awareness of self-defense.
In 2005, his film "A Wayward Cloud" won the Best Art Contribution Award at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival.
In 2010, he won the Asian Filmmaker of the Year at the Busan International Film Festival in Korea; in the same year, he won the Golden Owl Award at the Ritz International Film Festival in the UK.
In 2013, he won the 50th Golden Horse Award for Best Director Award for the film "Stray Dogs".
1957年生於馬來西亞,祖籍廣東揭陽,現居住和工作於台灣,是獨立電影工作者。1981年畢業於中國文化大學戲劇系影劇組,1983年自編、自導、自演一人作品《房間裡的衣櫃》,嘗試探討城市居民有意識的自我防衛。
2005年電影《天邊一朵雲》獲第五十五屆柏林國際電影節最佳藝術貢獻獎。
2010年,獲得韓國釜山國際影展年度亞洲電影人獎;同年獲得英國里茲國際影展「金貓頭鷹」獎。
2013年,以電影《郊遊》奪下第五十屆金馬獎最佳導演獎。
