Wang Guangyi was born in Harbin in 1957, he graduated from the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts in 1984 with a degree in oil painting. He currently lives and work in Beijing. In 1990, he began to create his series of "Great Criticism", which many art critics consider to be the representative figure of Chinese political pop.
He is frequently invited to participate in large-scale contemporary art exhibitions around the world, including the 45th Venice Biennale, the Asia Pacific Contemporary Art Triennial in Brisbane, Australia, the exhibition of China's Modernity in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and "How about China?" at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and many more.
He had also held solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Singapore, Basel, Paris, Seoul and London.
1957年生於哈爾濱,1984年畢業於浙江美術學院油畫專業,現居住和工作於北京。1990年開始創作「大批判」系列作品,被許多藝評家稱為中國政治波普的代表人物。
經常受邀參加世界各地的大型當代藝術展覽,包括第四十五屆威尼斯雙年展、澳洲布里斯本的亞太當代藝術三年展、巴西聖保羅《中國的現代性》展覽、巴黎龐畢度中心的《怎麼樣·中國?》等。
曾在香港、新加坡、巴塞爾、巴黎、首爾、倫敦等地舉行個展。
