Xu Bing was born in Chongqing in 1955, he was admitted to the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1977. He graduated from the school in 1981 and taught at his alma mater.
In 1990, he was invited by the University of Wisconsin and other universities to visit the United States, and he later moved to the United States as an artist.
He eventually returned to Beijing in 2008 and served as the deputy dean of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
Xu often organizes exhibitions and participates in large-scale international art events around the world, and his works are widely collected.
In 1999, he won the American MacArthur Award for his achievements such as "Book from the Sky" and won the Fukuoka Asian Culture Award "Art and Culture Award" in 2003.
1955年生於重慶,1977年考入中央美術學院版畫系,1981年畢業留校任教。
1990年接受美國威斯康辛大學等校邀請赴美展覽,後作為藝術家移居美國。
2008年回到北京,擔任中央美術學院副院長職務。
徐經常在世界各地舉辦展覽和參加大型國際藝術活動,作品被廣泛收藏。
1999年因作品《天書》等創作上的成就獲得美國麥克阿瑟獎,2003年榮獲福岡亞洲文化獎「藝術·文化獎」。
