Yang Jiechang
楊詰蒼

Born in Foshan, Guangdong Province in 1956, Yang Jiechang graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1982.

He taught at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts from 1982 to 1989 and currently lives in Paris and Heidelberg.

In his early years, he studied traditional calligraphy and ink painting. He caught the attention of both domestic and international art circles when he participated in the China Modern Art Exhibition of the 1989 China Art Museum and the "The Earth Magician" exhibition at the Centre Pompidou with his "Thousand Layers of Ink” series.

In the late 1980s, he moved to Europe where his artistic practice involved ink painting, installation, performance, and video art. He participated in many major international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and the Lyon Biennale.

1956年生於廣東佛山,1982年畢業於廣州美術學院國畫系。

1982年至1989年任教於廣州美術學院,現居住工作在巴黎和海德堡。

早年學習傳統書法和水墨畫,因參加1989年中國美術館的中國現代藝術展和龐畢度中心的《大地魔術師》展而被國內外藝術界關注,代表作品有「千層墨」系列等。

1980年代末移居歐洲,藝術創作涉足水墨、裝置、行為、影像藝術等多種形式,多次參加威尼斯雙年展、里昂雙年展等國際重大展覽。
